The historical and mining museum of Perticara was open in 1970, just six years after the end of the mining activity. It’s one of the first meaningful examples of the Italian industrial archeology. Since the last trolley of sulphur mined from the mine in April 1964, first sign of memory conservation will, the project has evolved until the magnificent restoration of the Certino ex-yard. From 2002 it contains the museum spaces where the Vittoria well dominates the passage as the ancient symbol of connection with the huge underground city.

The ex-power plant, the compressor room, the lamp room and the workshops have been substituted by an evocative and fascinating way which examines closely themes of mineralogy and geology, paying particular attention to the centuries of mining activity which developed in Perticara. Today, Sulphur, is one of the main tool for the diffusion of the mining culture and it’s a way to know mines, that together with textile and metallurgic industries, have been propellers of the industrial revolution. They changed the rural economy in a new kind of economy with a new conception and a new organization of work, using constant and systematic productions. Mines, tanks of techniques and hard work, became an important piece of our history and of our culture. They represent a common element in the past of all the European populations.

Our museum organizes also personalized guided tours and multidisciplinary deepenings such as the projection of historical movies.
